Theo thông tin của tờ Variety, Joker hiện đang chiếm ưu thế trong các giải đề cử của Oscar với 11 hạng mục quan trọng là: Đạo diễn xuất sắc nhất, Phim hay nhất, Nam diễn viên xuất sắc nhất cho Joaquin Phoenix, Kịch bản chuyển thể hay nhất, Quay phim xuất sắc nhất, Dựng phim xuất sắc nhất, Hòa âm hay nhất, Biên tập âm thanh xuất sắc nhất, Nhạc phim hay nhất, Thiết kế phục trang đẹp nhất và Hóa trang xuất sắc nhất. Bộ phim của đạo diễn Todd Phillips đang là đề cử gây chú ý nhất trong Oscar với nhiều dự đoán thắng giải.

Vị trí thứ hai thuộc về The Irishman của Martin Scorsese, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood của Quentin Tarantino và 1917 của Sam Mendes với 10 đề cử cho mỗi phim, đề cử này không nằm ngoài dự đoán của khán giả.
Đặc biệt, tác phẩm gây chú ý trong thời gian vừa qua của Hàn Quốc là Parasite (Ký sinh trùng) của đạo diễn Bong Joon Ho cũng không hề kém cạnh khi được đề cử 6 hạng mục: Phim hay nhất, Đạo diễn xuất sắc nhất, Kịch bản gốc xuất sắc nhất, Phim quốc tế xuất sắc nhất, Dựng phim xuất sắc nhất, và Thiết kế sản xuất xuất sắc nhất. Đây có thể coi là khoảnh khắc lịch sử đối với điện ảnh Hàn Quốc, cho thấy bộ phim được lòng Viện hàn lâm Khoa học và Nghệ thuật nước Mỹ ra sao. Phim cũng vừa giành giải Phim tiếng nước ngoài xuất sắc nhất tại Quả cầu vàng lần thứ 77.

Nữ diễn viên Scarlett Johannson được xướng tên đề cử trong hạng mục Nữ diễn viên chính xuất sắc nhất cho vai diễn trong phim Marriage Story và Nữ diễn viên phụ xuất sắc nhất cho vai diễn trong Jojo Rabbit.
Lễ trao giải Oscar 2020 sẽ diễn ra vào 6h30 sáng 10/2/2020 (giờ Việt Nam) tại Nhà hát Dolby, Los Angeles, Mỹ. Đài ABC sẽ tiếp tục phát sóng chương trình. Năm ngoái, lượng người xem đạt 29,6 triệu.
